“The Haulbowline East Tip is located on Haulbowline Island in Cork Harbour, between Ringaskiddy and Cobh. The objective of the project was to address the legacy associated with the disposal of steelwork waste on a sand spit on the Eastern end on the island over a long period, to regularise the status of the tip and to remediate it to ensure compliance with the EU Waste Framework Directive
The remediation solution comprised the removal of existing structures and scrap metal, re-profiling the site, the installation of a Perimeter Engineered Structure to the foreshore, the installation of an Engineered Capping System over the entire site, the installation of a surface water drainage system including wetland attenuation and the landscaping of the site as a public amenity all to regulatory requirements, standards and to international best practice and guidelines.”
